The quality parameters of electronic components and devices usually depend on the parameters of the materials. In many cases one does not know the theoretical relationship between the parameters, and therefore one makes technological experiments and measures the values of the parameters. Usually it is necessary to take several measuring points and calculate from this the unknown relationship between the parameters. Minimize

Sagittal otoliths and vertebrae from 46 yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares (118–175 cm fork length) collected off the west coast of South Africa were assessed for potential usefulness in age estimation. Growth increments were found on both structures. Comparisons of growth increment counts showed that agreement in the counts of the number of growth increments was low (33–44%) but that most (90–94%) agreed to within one growth increment. Growth increment counts from whole otoliths, sectioned otoliths and vertebrae were not significantly different (t-test, p < 0.05). Among-reader precision was high for both whole otoliths (average percent error [APE] = 9.8%) and vertebrae (APE = 12.1%), but low for sectioned otoliths (APE = 34.9%). Age-bias plots indicated non-linear bias when sectioned otoliths were assessed in relation to other structures. Whole otoliths and whole vertebrae were considered equally precise, but the practicality of collecting vertebrae from the commercial fishery was better. Vertebrae are recommended as the most suitable structure for ageing yellowfin tuna. Let σ be a finite relational signature and T a set of finite complete relational structures of signature σ and HT the countable homogeneous relational structure of signature σ which does not embed any of the structures in T. In the case that σ consists of at most binary relations and T is finite the vertex partition behaviour of HT is completely analysed; in the sense that it is shown that a canonical partition exists and the size of this partition in terms of the structures in T is determined. If T is infinite some results are obtained but a complete analysis is still missing. Some general results are presented which are intended to be used in further investigations in case that σ contains relational symbols of arity larger than two or that the set of bounds T is infinite. 1 Minimize

Given a universal binary countable homogeneous structure U and n ∈ ω, there is a partition of the induced n-element substructures of U into finitely many classes so that for any partition C0, C1,., Cm−1 of such a class Q into finitely many parts there is a number k ∈ m and a copy U ∗ of U in U so that all of the induced n-element substructures of U ∗ which are in Q are also in Ck. The partition of the induced n-element substructures of U is explicitly given and a somewhat sharper result as the one stated above is proven. 1 Minimize
