Complete Corrections of O(\alpha\alpha_s) to the Decay of the Z Boson into Bottom Quarks

Author:

Description:

For the vertex corrections to the partial decay rate $\Gamma(Z \to b\bar{b})$ involving the top quark only the leading terms of order $\alpha\alpha_s$ in the $1/M_t$ expansion are known. In this work we compute the missing next-to-leading corrections. Thus at $O(\alpha\alpha_s)$ the complete corrections to the decay of the Z boson into bottom qu...

Top quark production in electron-positron annihilation is one of the benchmark reactions at a future linear collider. Both electroweak and QCD corrections are large, amounting to 10% or even more in specific kinematic regions. In this note we present a method which allows to combine the dominant terms from both sources, thus improving considerably the result based on a simple addition of both corrections. ; Comment: 5 Pages, Talk presented by J. Corrections of $O(\alpha_s^2)$ to the decay of the top quark into a W boson and a bottom quark are calculated. The method is based on an expansion of the top quark propagator for small external momentum, q, as compared to the top quark mass, M_t. The physical point q^2 = M_t^2 is reached through Pad\'e approximations. The described method allows to take effects induced by a finite W boson mass into account. The numerical relevance of the result is discussed. Important cross-checks against recent results for the decay rate $b \to u l \bar\nu$ and the two-loop QED corrections to $\mu$-decay are performed. ; Comment: Latex, 21 pages, 1 figure included as ps-file. Polarization studies for $t\bar t$ pairs near threshold are free from hadronization ambiguities. This is due to the short lifetime of the top quark. Semileptonic decays are discussed as well as their applications in studying polarization dependent processes involving top quarks. The Green function formalism is applied to $t\bar t$ production at future $e^+e^-$ colliders with polarized beams. Lippmann--Schwinger equation is solved numerically for the QCD chromostatic potential given by the two-loop formula at large momentum transfers and Richardson ansatz at intermediate and small ones. The polarization dependent momentum distributions of top quarks and their decay products are calculated. ; Comment: 6 pages, LaTex (uses epsf.sty, 2 figures appended as uuencoded ps files).
